This year's Spring Budget statement from the Chancellor had the headline of a 5p reduction in fuel duty – because the price of fuel has gone UP. There was no mention of the thirteen previous years when fuel duty had been unchanged (actual fell when inflation is taken into account), despite several years when pump prices went DOWN. But, even worse, the Chancellor's overtly populist move will, in fact, benefit rich people who drive large cars the most, whilst making poorer people, who tend to drive smaller cars (or, more likely, have no car at all) suffer the consequences of the rich driving more! So much for levelling up!
We all subsidise rich people to drive big cars more
